What Keeps Shippers Up at Night
August 2008
A recent survey conducted by the National Shipper's Strategic Transportation Council asked shippers to identify their toughest challenges.
The results make it clear that shipping executives-who used to think of freight forwarding as a necessary evil - now view it as an integral part of their business strategy.
The survey also shows that shippers have a great deal in common with the average motorist these days - both are worried about rapidly increasing fuel prices.
More than half of the shippers who participated in the survey put rising fuel costs on their list of concerns and more than a third put fuel surcharges on the list. Most felt that prices will continue to rise.
Globalization and the pressure it is putting on transportation infrastructure and port security is something else that is keeping shippers up at night. In fact, globalization was mentioned as frequently as fuel surcharges.
Rounding out the list of shipper's concerns were market conditions, customer demands and the economy.
The organization that conducted this survey - the National Shipper's Strategic Transportation Council - provides information and advice to transportation, logistics and supply chain management professionals.
